I have used sanders before, so easy to over-and through!(at least for me!) thats why I am advocating a knife and hand sanding. These videos will make so much more sense when I complete the series, then people can pop back and watch the episodes that they want to find things out…I am looking forward to doing some how-to play videos too!!
Well I did the finishing by hand. Looking at it a year on though mine looks very rough though I was proud of it at the time. Has a good sound (especially since I took the frets off!) so that compensates for a lot in my book.
The whittlng works a treat, I started with a coping saw to remove most of the waste then got the knife out. My top is a thin ply and cuts beautifully. There is going to be a fair bit of scraping from now on.

removing a little at a time, the instruments character starts to emerge. Its a very rewarding stage, it goes from looking hellish to near complete!!
