My Solsylva Belt Drive CNC Router Part 1

Woodworking Plans Videos

It’s finally cutting something! This CNC router was based off the Solsylva belt drive CNC plans. I added an extra 12 inches to the Y axis and a steel table. Other than that, it pretty well follows the plans. I’m using the Gecko G540 driver board, and Xylotex 269 oz.in. steppers. The power supply is running at 48V. This thing can rapid at over 800 ipm, but I’ve limited it to a more reasonable 500 ipm. Cutting speed in the video is at 60 IPM. The sign was created using vcarve Pro 3.1. Machine Specs: Overall size: 48″ x 72″ Cutting area: approx. 39″ x 60″ Z travel: approx. 5″ Control software: Mach3 Belt drive on X, Y, Z So far I’ve spent about 00 on this. It works amazingly well already, but I’m not done with it by any means. I still want to add a vacuum table, dust collection, and a better Z carriage.

Hi. Good looking build : )
I’m guessing you upped the x axis to 36″ with a 48″ y ? I’m looking to build one and am going back and forth between belt drive and R&P. Any particular reason why belts work better for you ?

Yes, I expanded the Y to 48″ The only reason I went with belts is because the R&P plans weren’t available at the time. By the time I noticed the R&P plans, I had already put enough money into the belts and pulleys that I figured I’d better finish with what I had. If I were to do it again I would use R&P mainly for the extra rigidity.

Rack and Pinion would be better, I think.
