I’m relatively new to woodworking..and have a plan for a chair I want to build. The plan says "every block equals one inch"…I get that, but how do I enlarge the scale drawing to full size so I can cut a template? If this is obvious, I’m just missing it. Thanks!

There are several methods I use to enlarge, or reduce, a drawing/pattern.
One is to use the computer to resize. This works best for smaller projects.
You can use a copy machine or take the pattern to an office shop, like Kinko’s, and have them enlarge it to the size/scale you want.
You can use the "Grid" method. Here’s a great article explaining it.

You can use a pantograph. This article shows you how to make your own (it’s very simple) and how to use it.

There’s two ways. One, get a sufficiently large piece of paper, draw vertical and horizontal lines one inch apart, and hand draw the shape using the scale drawing as a guide. If you plan on doing alot of that type of thing, an architectual supply can sell you 100 foot rolls of graph paper.
Or, you can buy a Pantograph. That instument can be set to a ny particular ratio. There are lead points that you use to trace the small drawing. The second lead point draws the larger line. You will need a reasonably large flat table to anchor the Pantograph to.

Hi:
First off count the total squares on the drawing. Going first from the top to the bottom when you get that value write it down. Then going right to left count the total square when you get that value write it down. ( for example a 25 by 25 grid with each square equals 1 inch) starting on the right hand side of the board and from the top of the board go 25 inches to the bottom of the board. marking out each inch as go than from top of the board to the bottom , then from that marked line line go 25 inches going right to left marking each inch off as you go to the end at the 25 inch mark. When your done you should have a grid that is 25 inches square. than look a each square in your drawing and try to make a line that is in your draw the same shape as the draw but on the 25 inch grid What your doing is make a enlarge copy of your pattern at the same scale as the 25 inch grid ( if the drawing is 4 square long than the template will be 4 inches long )
Hope this helps
